I recently read an article that you wrote … I would just like to say thanks. I just recently got home from Iraq, I spent 6 months out there and am now with my son … I have been deployed for most of his life, I know him through phone calls and letter mail, and occasionally video chats. I was surprised when I got home … I walked through the terminal and the first thing he said was, papa? I just wanted to hit my knees and cry right there. I have been home for 2 weeks now, I am about to spend the next 3 years without a deployment.. and I just realized that I don’t know how to do this. I have conquered everything the military has put in my face, had stare downs with terrorist even… but the one thing that scares the death out of me is being a father.
Thanks for the article, it really made me feel a lot better knowing that just because people say its better to raise kids a certain way.. doesn’t mean you have to go by their way of raising kids… cause it doesn’t work!”
